Walkathon Raises $20,025.35, Thank you Banded Peak

I realize, as I craft this week's letter, that there is a recurring theme - "It's been a busy week at Banded Peak" and this week was no different. Each day we had great things happening! Monday, our grade 3-8 students were lucky to have three Division One Lacrosse players, the Running Rabbits, come and share their passion and knowledge of the game with all classes. Working with these elite athletes was excellent not only for students but our teachers also learned some new techniques and drills that they will be able to integrate in lessons moving forward. Amazing! Tuesday we had all six schools who participate in the Westside Leadership program come for a final working session. Although they got a little wet, it did not dampen their spirits! Thank you to Mr. Churchill for all his leadership and work with our Leadership students. This program is recognized across RVS as an exceptional opportunity for empowering, mentoring and developing our students' desire to do good things in their learning community and community. We are proud of the contributions from our Westside Leadership team! Well done! Thursday we celebrated our volunteers with our Volunteer Tea! Thank you to our student performers and for our event organizers, (Mrs. Masiuk, Mrs. Martens, Mrs. Veilleux and Mrs Hammad) for a wonderful morning of entertainment and fellowship. Please see my address and thank you to our AMAZING volunteers a little later in the Gazette!
And today, the Walkathon, I am not sure where to begin nor do I think I can capture what an amazing experience this is for our students. It was a special day of COMMUNITY AND PRIDE! There are so many people to thank: our School Council - Rebecca, Ainsley, Willow, Tova, and Elaine; Svenje and her team of volunteers who organized this day; our Redwood Meadows Emergency Services; our RCMP School Resource Officers; and our day of Volunteers. It takes a village to put on an event like this and to raise $20 025.35 - breaking last year's amount by nearly $2000. THANK YOU BANDED PEAK!

This day would not have been the success it was without your generosity and support! Thank you!
What made me so proud about today was the work that the students put into collecting their funds. I heard stories about how one student had a lemonade stand, another collected bottles and donated the funds and our iPad winner this year Thor went door to door asking for contributions. Thank you to all our students who participated in raising funds for their school. Putting the work in towards a collective goal is an important life lesson and is a foundational part of being a positive contributor to community. I am proud of all of you!
Next week continues to be full of busy days. Tuesday an extra Indigenous Creations session for the Ribbon Skirts and Shirts will take place in the Galileo Room from 10am to 2pm. Wednesday our grade 3/4's are off to the Canmore Nordic Centre for their year end trip and there is a Music Rental information night for next year's Band students at 6pm. Watch for more details from Mrs Campbell about this. Thursday and Friday our Grade 6 students are writing PAT's (Part B ELA and Part A Math). I know they have been preparing for these assessments and that they are going to do great! On Thursday, we are hosting our first Grandmothers' Tea, led by Kerrie Moore, a Métis Cree Elder, University of Calgary professor, and Tilly’s grandmother, for all Grade 8 girls, their mothers, aunties and grandmothers. This ceremony will honor the important transition from junior high to high school, marking a significant step in the lives of our young women. And on Friday, we celebrate all our grade 8 students with Grade 8 Farewell. This will be a special night for our senior students and their families as we mark their rite of passage from elementary/middle school to high school. We are looking forward to all of it.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Moore
