Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten

Kindergarten Team: Jess Liesemer

I am honoured to be the Kindergarten at Banded Peak School. It is truly a privilege to teach, build a relationship, and grow with Kindergarten children throughout such an exciting year for students and families.

I believe that children need to foster their individuality and learn through inquiry and many different modes of expression. In our child-centered environment we will develop a love of learning and construct meaning through language and literacy, movement, music, art, and exploration, as well as engage with the outdoor environment and local community. The concept underlying our “Discovery Time” centers is that children learn through play, where they have choice in activities and authentic, hands-on learning experiences. I am excited to spend this year providing children with meaningful experiences through which incredible growth can occur.

Assessment in Kindergarten is balanced, where varied sources of information are collected and documented as evidence of learning. Observation of children at play and conversations with them about their learning provides rich evidence of understanding. Assessment is used to provide descriptive feedback to the child and families, and to plan the learning environment. With support, children will also begin to reflect on their learning and develop self-regulation skills.

Land Acknowledgment

Rocky View Schools would like to acknowledge the land and recognize all the Indigenous Peoples whose footprints have marked these lands from time immemorial. Together, we can learn and honour the Ways of Knowing of Indigenous Peoples for all future generations.
