Small School, Big Heart and Huge Difference!
Posted on
This week at Banded Peak, we were reminded once again of the incredible impact a small school with a big heart can have. The Terry Fox Foundation’s message this year—“Finish It!”—resonated deeply with our students and staff. It’s a message that speaks to perseverance, courage, and the importance of seeing things through, even when the path is difficult. Terry’s legacy continues to inspire our learning community to embrace challenges and pursue their goals with determination and hope.
Our Terry Fox assembly and run/walk were powerful moments of reflection and action. They reminded us that one person—one idea—can spark change. And when a community comes together with heart, that change becomes even more profound. We are proud to share that Banded Peak exceeded our fundraising goal of $2,600, raising over $3,400 for the Terry Fox Foundation! This is a testament to the generosity and spirit of our students, families, and staff. From the excitement of the PLINKO game, which raised $500 in Toonies, to the pride students felt in contributing to something bigger than themselves, the energy and compassion shown this week were truly inspiring.
This is what makes Banded Peak special: a small school with a big heart making a huge difference. Every Toonie, every step taken during the run, and every conversation about Terry’s legacy contributed to a collective effort that will help others—and that’s something to celebrate.
Also a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Winters and some of her talented Mixed Media Arts students for their incredible work on the outdoor piano at the Bragg Creek Community Center. Your space-themed masterpiece has truly transformed the area, bringing color, creativity, and a sense of wonder to all who pass by. The attention to detail and imaginative design are absolutely stunning, and your contribution has added a vibrant and inspiring touch to our community space. We are so grateful for your artistic vision and dedication to beautifying our shared environment. Check out the photos below.
As we look ahead to next week, please note that there is no school on Monday and Tuesday. Monday is a professional learning day for staff, and Tuesday marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage all families to take time to reflect, renew their commitment to reconciliation, and engage in community events that honour this important day.
On Wednesday, we invite everyone to wear orange for Banded Peak’s Orange Shirt Day. This is a time to honour the children who attended residential schools in Canada, their families, and communities. It is also a moment to recommit to the work of truth and reconciliation through learning and reflection. We look forward to engaging in this meaningful learning together.
Also on Wednesday and Thursday, students will participate in a hands-on learning experience led by the Bragg Creek Environmental Coalition (BCEC). Through storytelling, exploration, and reflection, students will learn about forest ecosystems, the importance of old-growth trees, and how they can contribute to protecting local forests—both at school and at home. This is another example of how our small school continues to make a big impact through thoughtful, community-connected learning.
Our athletes will also be representing Banded Peak with pride next week. On Wednesday, students will compete in Cross Country Zones in Black Diamond, and our Jr A Boys volleyball team will participate in their seeding tournament at Seven Chiefs. On Thursday, our Jr A Girls volleyball team will head to Seven Chiefs for their tournament. We wish all our athletes the best of luck and are proud of their dedication and sportsmanship.
Finally, we are excited to host our first Commun-I-Tea of the year on Thursday from 3–5 PM, welcoming our First Nation, Métis, and Inuit families. This gathering builds on last year’s initiative, bringing us together in the spirit of connection, collaboration, and celebration. It’s another way our school community continues to grow stronger—through relationships, shared learning, and a commitment to inclusion.
Thank you for being part of our vibrant and caring school community. Your support, engagement, and generosity make Banded Peak a place where a small school with a big heart truly makes a huge difference.
Have a brilliant long weekend and we will see you on Wednesday,
Mrs. Moore
