A Week of Connection and Belonging
Posted on
At Banded Peak, we believe that building community in our classrooms and school is the cornerstone of learning. When students and families feel safe, seen, and heard, meaningful learning can truly flourish. This sense of belonging is nurtured through relationships and connections—and this past week, it was especially evident.
Teachers and students have been working hard to establish routines and expectations that support safe, inclusive learning environments. Collaborative activities are underway, and mentorship opportunities—such as leadership initiatives and our Buddies program—are helping students build relationships across grades.
One of the most symbolic and joyful moments of the week was our House Induction Ceremony, where new students and staff were officially welcomed into the Banded Peak learning community. I remember being inducted last year—it was one of my favourite moments of the year—and this year’s ceremony was just as special. Led by our leadership students, the event was filled with joy, laughter, and excitement. The energy of our Houses and inductees was contagious! Watching new members join their Houses was heartwarming, and the genuine welcome extended to all—including our 35 new students—was truly moving.
Our House System is a key part of how we build community throughout the year. Students will gather for special events and assemblies where they can earn House Beads—awarded for participation and for demonstrating the values in our Reach for the Peak Matrix:
- PE= Positive Environments
- A = Accountability
- K = Kindness
Students can earn beads weekly for exemplifying these PEAK attributes. For example, a teacher may notice a student showing kindness to a peer or making a strong contribution to maintaining a clean and tidy learning environment—helping to create a positive space for all. The possibilities for earning beads are truly limitless. We hope students embrace these opportunities to celebrate positive behaviours and look forward to joining in the friendly competition as a meaningful way to build belonging.
New families may wish to purchase House t-shirts to show their spirit—these are available in our school store, which is now open. Look for the link later in this newsletter!
Looking Ahead: Tipi Raising Ceremony
This upcoming week is a busy and special one, as we will raise our tipi for the first time in two years. We are beyond excited to welcome Elder Hal Eagletail to Banded Peak. Elder Eagletail will share teachings about the significance of our tipi design, guide us in understanding how we will use and honour this space, and lead us through the process and ceremony of raising the tipi. This promises to be a powerful and meaningful experience for our entire school community.
Take a “Peek at the Peak” & School Council Meeting
We’re also looking forward to welcoming families to our Open House – Take a Peek at the Peak on Wednesday evening from 5:30–6:30pm, followed by our first Parent Council Meeting at 6:30pm. As is tradition, free child minding will be available for families attending the meeting.
During the Open House, families will have the opportunity to visit classrooms, check out resources, explore our Learning Commons, and experience the rich and engaging learning spaces that make Banded Peak so special. It’s a wonderful chance to connect with staff, see student work, and get a glimpse into daily life at the school.
Getting involved in School Council is a wonderful way to stay connected, contribute to school initiatives, and help shape the learning experience at Banded Peak. We are so grateful to Mr. Churchill, Mr. Ellard, and Mrs. Williamson, who—alongside our leadership students and parent volunteers— will be hosting a booth at the Bragg Creek Farmer’s Market to spread the word about School Council and encourage community engagement. Thank you for representing Banded Peak so proudly!
Looking forward to seeing you all next week.
With gratitude,
Mrs. Moore
