Positive environments - A Banded Peak pillar

Posted on

One of the things that resonated with me this week is the need to continually revisit expectations to ensure students and staff maintain the positive environments that we learn and work within across our learning community. By reteaching, revisiting and reminding everyone of the positive ways in which we work to keep everyone safe and supported, we proactively reinforce these positive behaviours and expectations . This settles students and staff into predictable spaces and routines that allow us to learn and teach to our best potential. This is the work of Positive Behaviour Intervention and Support (PBIS) framework that we are implementing to promote positive behaviour and present unwanted behaviours for all our students at Banded Peak. Over the next several months we are excited to be introducing our learning community to our PEAK Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Matrix that is designed to promote a culture of respect, responsibility, and safety throughout our school community. Stay tuned for our big reveal!

Of late, we have been noticing an increase in students accessing their cell phones either directly or via Bluetooth devices such as AirPods during school hours. We will continue to educate our students about why this is use of technology is not allowed here at school but would ask that you too have conversations with your child about when it is appropriate to use their device and when it is not. If you have any questions about the use of digital technologies, please reference RVS' Responsible Use of Technology policy.

Thanks to our parents and volunteers who help us to operationalize our Fun Lunch - this month's was again a great success! Again BP students were out in the community trying new things, solidifying their curricular learning, and growing through experience. Enjoy the collection of photos below as our 1/2's explored the Zoo and the 7/8's were off to Spray Lakes for an activity day.

Next week is looking to be a quieter week with only having Mrs. Fortmuller's 7/8's off to SAIT on Tuesday and our Jr Boys off to Divisional play on Wednesday at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex. Banded Peak is the only 1A school in the top 5 and will play Rancheview in the semi-final game at 11am. Good luck Grizzlies!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone,

Mrs Moore
