Engaging and Celebrating....

Posted on

Yet another week of cool experiences and opportunities where Banded Peak students got to engage in real world opportunities and showcase their brilliance both academically and athletically. On Wednesday, Mrs. Fortmuller welcomed the Rocky View County planning team working on the Bragg Creek Area Structure Plan into her class to present to and gain insights from our grade 7 and 8 students about future developments in the hamlet. Students learned about the role of land use planners and provided their thoughts about what makes Bragg Creek unique, what they would like to be maintained and offered suggestions for improvement. Using this engagement as a springboard, students in Math class will be creating their own land use plan for potential expansion while maintaining Bragg Creek's unique appeal. These final projects will be shared back with the Rocky View County planning team....wow...this is real world learning!!! Who knows, perhaps this will inspire a future career choice or influence the Bragg Creek Area Structure Plan! On Thursday, our student athletes were in action at Badminton Divisionals, and they did the best our grade 8 team has ever done! A huge congratulations to Aiden and Logan for their gold and bronze placings in boys singles! We are so proud of all our athletes who have been practicing early before school for weeks growing their skills, and then performing so well! Kudos to you all and a big thank you to Mr. Churchill and Mr. George for their coaching! We look forward to the grade 7 Divisional tournament this coming Tuesday. Go Grizzlies!!! Finally, our student scientists are currently competing in the Calgary Youth Science Fair at the Olympic Oval. I know that they have been working hard all week in final preparation and that they too will be brilliant in today's event. I look forward to sharing their experience/results next week.

Next week is a short week with no school on Good Friday, our first day of Spring Break. Please be sure to mark your calendars that school will be out April 18th to April 27th with students returning Monday, April 28th. Before the break students will be busy with EGGstraordinary activities all week! Egg races at lunch, Easter egg decorating with buddies (Monday), monochromatic Tuesday (wear one colour), and Easter hat/hair day (Wednesday) will culminate on Thursday for our Annual Talent Show at 1pm. Parents and guests are welcome as we cheer on our local talent! It's going to be egg-cellent! Wednesday is a busy night at Banded Peak. Right after school, our Indigenous Creations night participants meet for the second evening as they work on making their Ribbon Skirt or Shirt which will be completed for June. And gentle reminder to all parents to a come out to this month's School Council meeting on Wednesday at 6:30pm. As always, free child minding is provided and those who can not join in person are always welcome on Zoom: Password- Banded

Have a wonderful weekend everyone,
