Creativity and Advocacy Abound

What a fantastic week it’s been at Banded Peak School! We’ve had so much excitement from outdoor adventures to artistic expression, athletic achievements to big reminders, there’s been something special happening every day.

Our Grade 1/2 students took part in an exciting Polar Bear Walk, and it was a truly magical experience! Dressed in their warm coats, they embraced the chilly air with excitement and energy, showing great enthusiasm and teamwork as they trekked through the snow-covered landscape. Not only did they learn about the beauty of the changing seasons and climate, but they also raised funds for the World Wildlife Foundation by carrying their bottles to the bottle depot. The theme for the day was Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle, emphasizing how the decisions we make today can have lasting impacts on the future of our planet.

Over in the Kindergarten classroom, the creative energy was overflowing! Our Kindergarten students had an unforgettable Fine Arts Day, where they explored the world of Wet Felting. The kids worked diligently, carefully turning colorful wool into beautiful, soft felt creations. They were so focused and determined as they worked with their hands, creating individual pieces of art that were full of creativity and imagination. Wet felting allowed them to explore texture, color, and design in a hands-on way, and the results were simply stunning! We couldn’t be prouder of the beautiful works of art they made. It was inspiring to see our youngest learners so engaged in the creative process, and their artistic expressions filled the room with a sense of pride and joy.

This week, we were also thrilled to have students take part in an Equine Assisted Learning program. Our students had the chance to engage with horses in a therapeutic setting, learning valuable life skills such as communication, teamwork, and emotional regulation. It was an incredibly enriching experience that provided our students with the opportunity to connect with these amazing animals while building confidence and trust. Equine Assisted Learning is such a powerful tool, and we’re grateful to have five more days to offer this experience to our students.

A big shout-out to our incredible Grade 6 basketball team! Today, they’re off to their big tournament, and we couldn’t be more excited for them. This talented group of students has been practicing hard, refining their skills, and showing exceptional teamwork throughout their practices. We know they’re going to represent Banded Peak School with the determination, focus, and sportsmanship that make us all so proud. And of course, what’s a big day without some fuel? The A&W fun lunch today is sure to give them the energy they need to play their best on the court! We’re all cheering them on and sending our best wishes for a successful tournament. Go Banded Peak—show them what we’re made of!

Just a quick reminder to all our families: there will be no school on Monday, as it’s a Professional Learning Day for our amazing staff.

When we return on Tuesday, we’ll kick things off with a school-wide assembly! We’re so excited to gather together and continue teaching our students the key elements of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). This school-wide approach helps to reinforce the values of respect, responsibility, and safety throughout our school. Our students have been doing an amazing job embracing these values, and we can’t wait to keep building on that momentum with this week's focus being accountability. The assembly will be a great way to reconnect and re-energize as we continue our journey toward making Banded Peak School the best it can be.

For parents of students with Individual Program Plans (IPPs), these have now been completed, and we encourage you to take a look at them. We’re excited to continue working together to support each student’s individual learning journey.

We hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, enjoys the break, and comes back ready to dive into another great week. Have fun, stay safe, and we’ll see you on Tuesday, ready to start the week with a smile! Go Banded Peak!
