Celebrating our Students
Posted on
Another spectacular week at Banded Peak! Monday, staff had a day of robust learning, professional discussions and collaboration. These days are essential in for the work and learning necessary to achieve our SEP goals, and to provide all our students with rich opportunities and experiences. Banded Peak is blessed in having exceptional staff and we thank them for their commitment and professionalism.
Tuesday, I joined the grade 3/4 students for a presentation with Michelle Minke, Banded Peak parent, vocal coach/teacher and distinguished opera singer. Talk about COOL! Michelle had the room captivated as she sang in Italian, one of her 11 languages she sings in, to them and then put them through the paces with some vocal exercises. I had goosebumps and upon reflection, thought about how lucky our students were to be having this experience and the many more Fine Art focused experiences we have planned for them over the next several months.
Wednesday and Thursday nights we welcomed families in to celebrate our students’ learning and growth with Collaborative Conferences. These nights really are a showcase for students to share with families their hard work, celebrate where they are in their learning journey and set goals for continued growth and next steps. For families who were unable to attend, if you have questions, please reach out!
Today, our student gathering area was a hive of activity as our 5/6 students showcased their STEAM projects that they have been working on for months! They were AWESOME and as I shared with Mr Dupre, I never had curiosities about the possibility of solar panels powering airplanes or the compression of liquids at their age. Our future is in good hands with the creativity, curiosity and problem solving that was demonstrated by our students. A huge thank you to all of those who provided our students with feedback and were involved in the judging process. This was a massive undertaking in coordination and effort and I want to thank Mrs. Summerscales for her leadership and work to ensure that the entire process, from ideation to Showcase, was seamless! Thank you Mrs Summerscales!
Next week, the luck of the Irish will kick off our week with St. Patrick’s Day. Be sure to wear green! Wednesday, we will be hosting a Ribbon Skirt and Shirt Making Night for our Indigenous students and families from 3 – 5:30pm. And, at 6:30pm, we welcome all families to our March School Council meeting! The K-2 grade team will be sharing at the meeting about all things K-2. We look forward to this final grade team presentation for this year. Please see last month’s Council minutes and this month’s agenda later in the Gazette and as always, free child minding is provided. We hope to see you there.
Jr B Basketball will be winding up next Friday with teams competing at Westbrook and Meadowbrook! In their first weekend of competition the girls had a win and a tie with the boys starting with a tie and ending with a win. I am excited to post the girls won both their games tonight and the boys won both games as well. Keep working hard Grizzlies! Go Grizzlies Go!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone,
Mrs Moore
