And the winner goes to....

This year we had 23 entries into the Yearbook Cover Contest. The competition was fierce with so many creative and beautifully crafted submissions. Thank you and congratulations to all students who participated. This year's Yearbook Cover Contest winner is Ava Fox! Ava's cover highlights so many attributes of Banded Peak's culture and school life! Excellent work Ava! Congratulations to Maeve Allgaier whose image was selected as this year's Runner-Up.

Another week has passed, and students have once again had invaluable opportunities to explore, engage and experience new skills by working alongside local experts. On Tuesday, all grade 5 and 6 students engaged in learning about crochet, working with clay and square dancing as part of their Fine Arts Day focus. Trying new things is so important for a student's personal growth and self-discovery and I was really proud of how all students embraced the unfamiliar and gave it a try.

Wednesday was a busy day after school as we hosted the first night of our second annual Ribbon Shirts and Skirts Creation Series for our Indigenous students and families. I am pleased to share that we have over doubled last year's attendance having 22 people participate. We can not wait to see their end products that will be done in June.

This family event was followed by our School Council and Friends of Banded Peak meetings. A big thank to all those parents that consistently show up for these meetings as you are essential partners in Banded Peak's learning community. Thank you to our School Council executive of Rebecca Parzen, Ainslie Campbell, Elaine Greene, Tova Schaefer, Willow Carrier for their hard work on behalf of all our students. I would encourage all families to mark April 16th, our next Council meeting, on their calendars and come out to join us! The discussions and decisions at these meetings impact teaching and learning at Banded Peak.

Friday saw both Jr B teams compete in their last tournament of the season. Congratulations to our girls team who went undefeated all season long! To both teams, I am proud of your compete and hard work to improve. Thanks to Mrs. Winters, Mrs. Wicktor-Neumeister and myself for volunteering their time and sharing their expertise with our student athletes. Well done Grizzlies!

This upcoming week complementary courses begin for term 3 for all grade 5 to 8 students. Class lists for these options will be shared with students on Monday. Thursday all grade 8 students will be registering for their classes at Springbank High School with Mr Makreel. Please ensure you have had a conversation with your child about what they will be taking moving into grade 9 next year.

That's all for this edition of the Gazette. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
