Accountability: A Banded Peak Pillar
Posted onA big shout out to our Jr A Boys Basketball team who won Bronze at Divisionals last Friday! The boys came back from being down 10 against Mitford to win with 7 seconds left on a textbook play that they ran with composure and confidence. Check out the video of the play and the win below in the photos!
One of the things that we have discussed over the season with the boys is the importance of accountability to themselves, and their teammates. As a student athlete, students are expected to follow a Code of Conduct, maintain a positive level of academic standing and push themselves and their teammates to be better each day. They are accountable to each other and to themselves in their pursuit of growth and excellence. This idea of accountability is something we discuss with all students daily. It is essential for students because it helps them take responsibility for their actions and decisions, both in and outside the classroom. It encourages self-discipline, time management, and the ability to set and achieve goals. In practice, accountability might look like students completing assignments on time, actively participating in class discussions, and seeking help when needed. It also involves owning up to mistakes and using them as opportunities for growth. Ultimately, accountability builds the skills necessary for success both in school and in life. In the coming months as we roll out our school wide PBIS matrix, PEAK, we will be highlighting accountability and its significance in our daily teaching and learning. Watch for more about this in future Gazettes.
Next week will be a busy one as we work towards the long weekend and our February break, Feb 17 – 21st. On Tuesday, Mr Churchill's 7/8's off to SAIT to participate in the Digital Youth program and Wednesday we host our 2nd Commun-I-tea for our Indigenous students and families from 3-5 pm followed by our February School Council meeting at 6:30pm. Also, Leadership students will be selling lollipops in the student gathering area for $0.50 every day next week. Proceeds from these sales will pay for the Valentine's Day cookie each student in the school will receive on Friday! Finally, it is that time of year again for our Yearbook Cover Contest! Please encourage your child to get involved in designing this year's cover. Details are included in the poster included in this week's Gazette.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone,
Mrs Moore
